How document analysis works
Last updated: 30 July 2026.
MySymplyApp Scan is an optional feature that reads a health document you have saved — an appointment letter, a prescription, a consultant letter, a test result — and pulls out the dates and details so you do not have to type them.
It is off until you turn it on
Document analysis is switched off for every new account. Nothing is sent anywhere until you turn it on in Settings and choose to analyse a document. If you never turn it on, your documents are simply stored in your account.
What happens when you analyse a document
- The document is sent over an encrypted connection to the Lovable AI Gateway, which passes it to an OpenAI model for reading only.
- The model returns a plain-language summary and a list of suggested details, each marked Clear, Please check or Could not confirm.
- Nothing is filed into your record until you confirm it. You can change any wording, or mark a detail as not needed.
- The original document is always kept exactly as you uploaded it.
What MySymplyApp Scan never does
- It does not diagnose, and it does not tell you what a result means.
- It does not say whether anything is normal or abnormal unless the document itself says so, in those words.
- It never suggests starting, stopping or changing a medication.
- It never changes your medication list, appointments or reminders on its own.
- It does not diagnose or interpret your health, and does not replace advice from your clinician.
When it cannot read something
If part of a document is blurred, handwritten or cut off, MySymplyApp says so plainly and asks you to check. It will not fill in a gap with a guess.
Dates
MySymplyApp keeps date meanings separate: the date printed on a letter, the date a consultation happened, and a future appointment date are stored as different things. Where a date has been worked out rather than read — for example “review in six months” — it is labelled as an estimate for you to confirm.
Turning it off and deleting what was found
You can switch document analysis off at any time in Settings. Deleting a document deletes the suggested details found in it. Details you confirmed remain on the document record until you delete the document.
Who processes what
The providers involved are listed on our sub-processors page. Document content is only sent for analysis when you ask for it, is not used to train models, and is not stored by the gateway.
